BAL and BNP Plotting to Destroy the Country Together: Nahid Islam

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Chief Whip of the Opposition Nahid Islam has accused the Awami League and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of working together to undermine the country, alleging that authoritarian elements and extortionists are conspiring to destroy Bangladesh.
He also claimed that the influence of these two political forces was preventing peace from returning to the country.
Nahid made the remarks while addressing a citizens' meeting organised by the NCP's Shariatpur district unit at the Shariatpur Municipality Auditorium at around 11 am on Tuesday (October 13).
Addressing BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Nahid said the party must identify and expel individuals involved in extortion, tender manipulation and illegal occupation of property. Otherwise, Tarique Rahman's plans would not be implemented, he added.
Nahid further claimed that Tarique Rahman would not have been able to return to Bangladesh from London without the sacrifices made by students. He also alleged that a new group of money launderers had replaced those who had previously siphoned money out of the country.
Expressing concern over rising prices, the NCP leader said gas prices and the costs of essential commodities had moved beyond the reach of ordinary people. He blamed syndicates operating at different levels for driving prices sharply upward, leaving people struggling to meet their daily needs.

He stressed the need for effective measures to end extortion, tender manipulation and illegal land grabbing in the political arena. Without action against those involved in such irregularities, achieving the desired changes would be difficult, he said.
Nahid also called on government officials to perform their duties impartially, urging the administration to learn from past events and prioritise public interests over the interests of any political party.
The meeting was chaired by Advocate Ruhul Amin, president of the NCP's Shariatpur district unit, and moderated by district general secretary Sabuj Talukder.
Among those attending were NCP Chief Organiser for the Northern Region Sarjis Alam, Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adib, member Imran Hossain, National Student Power central member Mahbub Alam Joy, and Imran Al Nazir, former convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement's Shariatpur district unit. Leaders and activists from various district and upazila units of the NCP were also present.
