Zubayer Ahmad Tashrif Blames Leftists for Tongi Incident Without Presenting Evidence

A controversy has emerged over allegations of sexual abuse involving a six-year-old madrasa student in Tongi, Gazipur, and the subsequent assault of a teacher accused in the case. Religious speaker Hafez Qari Zubayer Ahmad Tashrif has claimed that leftists were involved in the incident, but he has not presented specific evidence to support the allegation.

On Friday night, October 23, Tashrif posted a video on his verified Facebook page with the caption, “Leftists are involved in the Tongi incident.” In the video, he questioned the role of the child’s guardian, who allegedly slapped the madrasa teacher, and called for a fair investigation and exemplary punishment for those found responsible.
Tashrif said that a religious scholar and Quran teacher had been beaten in Tongi. Referring to allegations that the teacher had kissed or held the child, he demanded evidence regarding the accusations. He also stated that any teacher proven to have committed sexual abuse should face the maximum punishment.
Criticising the guardian’s reported remarks about madrasa teachers, Tashrif alleged that the individual had already harboured hostility towards religious scholars. However, he provided no explanation or supporting evidence for his claim that leftists were involved in the incident.
In another Facebook post published on Saturday afternoon, October 24, Tashrif wrote, “Kissing a young minor child is permissible a hundred times over, but not with bad intentions.” His remarks have added to the public debate surrounding the case.
The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday, October 21, at Qariul Quran International Madrasa in Auchpara, Tongi, Gazipur. Police arrested the institution’s vice-principal, identified as Musleuddin, following allegations of sexual abuse involving a six-year-old female student.
According to the child’s family, she became reluctant to attend the madrasa after the incident. The family said she initially hesitated to speak because of fear and alleged threats but later disclosed the incident to her parents. They also claimed that the child had been threatened with physical punishment if she revealed what had happened.
After hearing the child’s account, her guardian reportedly went to the madrasa and questioned the accused teacher. A video circulated on social media appears to show the teacher acknowledging inappropriate touching during the questioning. The guardian subsequently slapped him.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media. While many have called for an impartial investigation into the allegations and measures to protect the child, the assault on the teacher has also raised concerns about taking the law into one's own hands.

Tashrif has previously faced criticism over his social media commentary on controversial incidents. In December 2025, he posted about the killing of garment worker Dipu Chandra Das in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, who was beaten to death over allegations of religious defamation. Subsequent reports indicated that the allegation was false, and his post was reportedly removed amid criticism.
Questions remain about the circumstances of the alleged abuse, the evidence supporting the accusations and the findings of the investigation into both the alleged misconduct and the assault. An impartial investigation and evidence-based findings by the relevant authorities are essential to establishing the facts and determining accountability.
