Release All Detainees by Tomorrow or I’ll Go on Hunger Strike: Sonam Wangchuk

Ladakh-based educator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has warned that he may launch a hunger strike or undertake a march if all those detained in connection with the protests are not released by tomorrow.
The Ramon Magsaysay Award-winning activist expressed concern over the arrests in a post on X today, saying he had never imagined that the world’s largest democracy would find itself in an “undeclared emergency” when he appealed for unity and peace ahead of the protests.
Wangchuk said he had been encouraged to see so many leaders coming forward to lead the movement. However, he was deeply concerned to learn that all of them had reportedly been arrested.
“I hope all those arrested will be released soon,” he said, urging the authorities to free the detainees without delay.
Wangchuk added that if everyone was not released by tomorrow, he would be compelled to consider launching a hunger strike or undertaking a march as a form of protest.
