Mbappe Brace Sinks Barcelona as Real Madrid End El Clasico in Style

Barcelona’s hopes of making history were dashed as Real Madrid claimed a 2-1 victory in the first El Clasico of the year in La Liga. Kylian Mbappe struck twice to inspire Los Blancos to a crucial win at Camp Nou, handing Hansi Flick’s side their first league defeat of the season and denying the Catalan giants a chance to set a new winning record.
Barcelona entered Sunday’s clash on October 25 with history within reach. A victory would have taken the Catalans to 10 consecutive wins at the start of their league campaign, surpassing Real Madrid’s record of nine straight victories in the opening matches of the 1968-69 season. However, their fierce rivals had other plans, leaving Barcelona frustrated on their own turf.
The hosts began the contest by attempting to dominate possession and put Real Madrid under pressure. Despite their early efforts, Barcelona struggled to turn their control of the ball into clear-cut opportunities. Real Madrid, meanwhile, remained composed and waited for the right moment to strike.
Their patience paid off in the 41st minute when Mbappe found the back of the net to give the visitors the lead. The French forward’s clinical finish put Real Madrid in control heading into the interval and left Barcelona with work to do in the second half.

Barcelona returned from the break determined to fight back, and their persistence was rewarded in the 61st minute. Brazilian forward Raphinha restored parity, reigniting the contest and giving the home supporters fresh hope.
With the score level, both sides pushed for a decisive breakthrough. However, it was Mbappe who delivered the decisive blow. The French superstar struck again in the 87th minute, completing his brace and securing a vital victory for Real Madrid.
Barcelona tried to find a late equaliser but could not break through Real Madrid’s defence again. The defeat ended their winning run and brought their unbeaten start to the league campaign to a close. For Real Madrid, the result marked a significant triumph in one of football’s fiercest rivalries.
Despite the setback, Barcelona remain top of the La Liga standings with 27 points from 10 matches, having won nine games. Real Madrid sit third with 24 points from the same number of matches, while Atletico Madrid occupy second place with 25 points. Although Barcelona retain the lead, Real Madrid’s El Clasico victory has added fresh intensity to the race for the Spanish league title.
